At the 36 acre Bush Terminal Campus in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, The New York City Economic Development Corporation is leading an ongoing investment and repositioning strategy at the historic waterfront site to deliver new leasable space for growing industries, a dynamic employment hub and resilient public realm space.
Construction is wrapping up on 13 42nd Street, a five story building in the first phase of the 36 acre MADE (Manufacturers, Artisans, Designers, Entrepreneurs) Bush Terminal development. Designed by ARCHITECTS and developed by the NYCEDE. The two phase project involves the conversion of abandoned industrial buildings into new manufacturing and studio hub space, as well as the creation of public recreation space.
The first structure, Building A, will have 140,000 square feet for innovative manfacturing and 30,000 square feet for indoor public gathering and event space. The complex will also include a park built on a former shipping pier (Pier 6) stretching out into Bay Ridge Channel and five acres of landscaped plazas. The redevelopment of Pier 6 is supporting the public space and operations of the adjacent Bush Terminal Piers Park and Bush Terminal campus. W Architecture & Landscape Architecture designed the greenery and plaza space across the entire campus.
The south portion of Bush Terminal, known as made in New York (MiNY) campus is a collaboration between the NYCEDC and the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME). This site will become home to Steiner Studiod sequel; which will provide 700,000 square feet of sound stages for Film and T.V. The project is expected to support 2,200 industry jobs and advance diversity and equity in the media and entertainment industry.
The NYCEDC is a mission driven, non profit organization that works for a vibrant, inclusive and globally competitive economy for all New Yorkers. The main strategies of NYCEDC are to strengthen confidence in New York City as a great place to live, learn, work and play as well as delivering sustainable infrastructure for communities and the City's future economy.
According to First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer “The MADE Bush Terminal campus is one more example of the city's focus on the Harbor of the Future, a sustained effort to create modern industrial spaces that leverage our blue highways and purposefully co-locate manufacturing, creative and cultural users, green space, public transit and attractive rental workspace for the builders of tomorrow.”
