The Sleepy Streets of Vinegar Hill Brooklyn

Dumbo has become one of the hottest and most rapidly growing neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Just beyond this truly unique neighborhood is the very quiet charming Vinegar Hill, another waterfront neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY.

Some real estate brokers and agents in Brooklyn New York have not heard of Vinegar Hill but they will!

One of the rules of real estate in Brooklyn is that once a neighborhood develops and gentrifies there is always a ripple effect on bordering neighborhoods. Vinegar Hill is no exception to this rule. Vinegar Hill is gradually developing, but for now strolling the streets of the neighborhood is like stepping into the past.

For example, the row of houses numbered 49 to 59 Hudson Avenue, according to The City Landmarks Preservation Commission was built in 1835 or earlier.

Step into The Vinegar Hill House restaurant located at 72 Hudson Avenue filled with vintage charm and serving up amazing brussel sprouts and wonderful squash ravioli.

Another Vinegar Hill gem is the 1806 Vintage mansion named the Commandant's House just past the gates on Evans Street. The home has many wonderful features including an oval dining room, a verandah and a greenhouse. This was the home of Commodore Mathew Perry in the 1840's while he commanded the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The current owners of the house purchased it in 1997.
