Along the trail there is a platform that juts out onto the water and provides an unobstructed view of the wetlands and additional walking trails across the salt marsh. To the Birder's delight, according to the City's Audubon Society, Spring brings various migratory flyers such as Orioles and Cuckoos. Summer brings a true variety of birds from Ospreys to Warblers to Terns, Autumn brings Raptors and Song birds and Winter Ducks and Loons and Song birds that do not head South for the Winter.
Adjacent to the Salt Marsh Nature Center is the designated Forever Wild Preserve to protect the trail and marshes. The City's Park Department opened this preserve in 2000 to provide an augmented experience for visitors.
