The New York City EDC (Economic Development Corporation) has released an up to $100M request for proposals for an operator to develop a world class Climate Innovation Hub at the Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park.
Mayor Eric Adams Green Economy Energy Action Plan will couple the private sector with city led actions to more than double green collar jobs by 2040. This EDC investment to create the Climate Innovation Hub is part of this plan.
This cutting edge hub is planned to expand New York City's Climate technology ecosystem, help climate technologists, entrepreneurs and others working on innovative solutions to combat climate change.
The Climate Innovation Hub is part of the Harbor Climate Collaborative – a partnership linking climate tech businesses with programs at BAT & Sunset Park, The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation and the Trust for Governors Island.
The vision for the new hub is a 112,000 square foot space that will help new market innovators, small companies and larger companies to build prototype products, provide business support and conduct research and development.
Mayor Adams wants to secure New York City's position at the center of the green economy revolution and create 400,000 Green Economy jobs by 2040.
According to Andrew Kimball, NYC EDC President & CEO “There is no better location for the Climate Innovation Hub than the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park, which will serve as a home for clean tech innovation and manufacturing”.
Dan Goldman, Congressman says “The Climate Innovation Hub will be at the cutting edge of transforming New York into the green energy capital of America – all in Sunset Park here in NY”.
According to Lindsay Greene, President & CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation “Initiatives like the forthcoming Climate Innovation Hub will meaningfully build on the city's existing climate solutions research and entrepreneurship ecosystem at Governors Island and here at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. We look forward to growing the sustainability industry together”.
