Exciting stuff! The American Institute of Architects, Brooklyn chapter (founded in 1894) is running The Brooklyn Design Awards (BKDA) that focuses on excellence and creativity in Brooklyn's unique landscape. AIA Brooklyn represents the professional interests of architects across New York State. The Brooklyn chapter is the second largest in the state.
This is not a competition, but rather the entries to the BKDA will be vetted by whether the work has fulfilled the requirements of the BKDA. After reviewing each work independently, the jurors will convene and deliberate. The new jurors include both Brooklyn residents and outside nominees.
The awards will be given to the projects with exemplary portrayal of the complex issues in the Brooklyn community such as health, safety and general welfare of the public in the frame of climate change and social inequity.
The new jurors are:
Arthur Liu RA (registered architect) is a Design Director in the New York office of Studio Gang and has previously taught at Parsons School of Design.

He leads the visionary and implementation of environmentally responsible design strategies on all of the firm's wide ranging projects, from local to global and across multiple scales and building typologies.
The BKDA program seeks to highlight the borough of Brooklyn with its design community serving as a creative hub for innovation and its diverse neighborhoods as a dynamic network and unique urban fabric. Multiple entries within a particular typology may be eligible for an award.
The goal is to highlight outstanding projects by Brooklyn firms and exceptional design work within the borough, whatever form it may take.
