On Sunday December 15th a wonderful Duke Ellington/ Billy Strayhorn arrangement of The Nutcracker Suite, originally composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was performed by The Brooklyn Jazz Orchestra at The Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church located at 85 South Oxford Street in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The BJO also performed several Christmas classics such as delightfully jazzy version of Jingle Bells and others. The BJO is led by Mr. Paul Francis and features Trumpeteers Shareef Clayton, Seneca Black, Mark Morgan, Dan Blankinship and Todd Stoll. The Rythm section features Alex Smith on Piano, Daniel Foose on Bass and Paul Francis on Drums. The trombone section features John Fedchock, Matt Musselman and Max Siegel. Last but not lease, the Saxophone section features Patrick Bartley, Chris Bacas, Mark Lopeman, Dan Pratt and Frank Basile.
The evening included a fabulous performance by Grammy nominated Jazz vocalist Carla Cook.
The Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church itself was gorgeously decorated in Christmas attire and looked so beautiful and festive and was filled with Jazz music enthusiasts young and mature alike. As huge fans of Jazz music for many years, we are grateful to Ms. Robynne Kaamal for contacting us and giving us an opportunity to sponsor the Brooklyn Jazz Orchestra and such a wonderful evening of Jazz music in historic Fort Greene, Brooklyn NY
The Brooklyn Jazz Orchestra's next performance at The Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church will be held on March 30, 2014 and will feature the music of Stan Kenton.
