Brooklyn Bridge Park Update

There are plans in place to connect the section of Brooklyn Bridge Park's Brooklyn Heights Fulton Ferry section and the Dumbo section starting this Fall.

Currently, park visitors have to exit the park at Water Street to go from one section to the other.

A pedestrian plaza will replace a fenced off lot which separates the 2 sections of the park.  The new $8M plaza, is expected to be completed by December 2021 and will conform to the current look with concrete pavers, planting beds and a lawn.

Brooklyn Bridge Park President Eric Landau says “the project was given the go ahead by the city's Landmarks and Preservation Commission”. Laudau also said “any project that is in a landmarked district on city owned land needs to go before the Landmarks Preservation Commission.  The fenced in lot under the bridge is part of the Fulton Ferry Historic District.

Portions of the Brooklyn Bridge Park and plaza were designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh, however the park also collaborated with Pratt Institute and the community on this project.
