The Prospect- Lefferts Gardens Brooklyn New York historic district includes parts of Prospect- Lefferts Gardens and Lefferts Manor, the neighborhood's oldest development, remained "one of the finest enclaves of nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century housing in New York City." In 1660 a Dutch immigrant by the name of Leffert Pietersen van Haughwout founded a farm at the northern edge of Flatbush, at what is today Lefferts Manor. These two sections of Prospect Lefferts Gardens have kept many of the homes single family residences. Most of the houses in Prospect Lefferts Gardens Brooklyn New York are constructed of Brick or Brownstone and are at least two stories high and are set back from the street at least 14 feet. Between 1905 and 1911 more than 500 homes were built in Prospect Lefferts Gardens and were built with white limestone.
